Ties, as a rule, are designed to be robust: think how many get trapped in draws, tugged all ways or dipped in soup etc and the material used is strong and durable. We'd love to use some of the delicate silk ties we have here, but the key word there is 'delicate' and they're not hard-wearing enough for our liking to convert into a dog collar.
